Ohio Requires Detailed Pay Statements

Starting April 9, 2025, a new law will require employers of all sizes to provide detailed pay statements (also known as pay stubs) to all employees. Previously, Ohio was one of only a few states that did not legally require employers to provide pay stubs. Under this new law, employers will need to provide employees with detailed pay statements on each regular payday. These statements must include the following information for the pay period:

  • Employee's name and address

  • Employer's name

  • Total gross wages paid

  • Total net wages paid

  • Amount and purpose of each addition or deduction from the wages

  • Date paid and pay period

For hourly employees, the pay stub must also include:

  • Total hours worked

  • Number of overtime hours

  • The hourly wage that the employee was paid

Employers can provide these pay stubs in written or electronic form, or by giving employees access to a statement that has this information, such as within an online portal.

Action Item:

Begin providing pay statements with the required information by April 9, 2025
